RBI Grade B guide
What is RBI Grade B?
RBI Grade B (Direct Recruitment) recruits officers for the Reserve Bank of India in three streams: General (DR), DEPR (Department of Economic and Policy Research), and DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management).
It is the most prestigious finance and economics exam in India. Grade B officers work on monetary policy formulation, banking regulation and supervision, foreign exchange management, currency management, and financial stability research.
The selection has three stages: Phase I (objective screening), Phase II (economic, finance and English papers), and an interview. Phase I is the gateway β only 10β15 times the vacancy count is shortlisted for Phase II.
RBI Grade B salary (JMG Grade B) starts at βΉ55,200 basic (post-revision). With HRA, DA, PF, and other allowances, gross CTC is approximately βΉ12ββΉ14 lakhs per annum. Officers also get RBI quarters (or HRA), medical, and LFC β among the best benefits in Indian banking.
How it works

Strategy
How to prepare for RBI Grade B
01Train for sectional timing
You cannot borrow time between sections. Practise every section with its own 20-minute timer from day one.
02Puzzles decide Reasoning
Seating arrangements and puzzles carry a large share of Reasoning marks. Solve 3β4 puzzles daily and learn to pick the easiest ones first.
03Read for English and awareness together
Reading one quality newspaper's economy and banking pages builds RC speed and banking awareness at the same time.
04Prepare Mains from the start
Prelims and Mains are only weeks apart. Cover DI, banking awareness and descriptive writing while preparing for Prelims.
05Mock daily in the last month
Bank exams are speed games. One sectional or full mock a day in the final month makes a visible difference.
