DSSSB PRT/TGT guide
What is DSSSB PRT/TGT?
DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board) recruits teachers for government schools run by the Delhi government and local bodies β including MCD schools, Delhi government schools, Navodaya Vidyalayas in Delhi, and other government-aided institutions. Posts include PRT (Primary Teacher, Classes 1-5), TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher, Classes 6-10) and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher, Classes 11-12).
The DSSSB TGT selection is based entirely on a computer-based written exam (CBT) β there is no interview. The written exam has two parts: a General Section (100 marks) testing General Awareness, Reasoning, Arithmetic, Hindi and English, and a Subject-specific section (100 marks) testing the candidate's teaching subject (Maths, Science, Social Studies, English, Hindi, etc.). Total 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours.
Negative marking is 0.25 marks per wrong answer. This is less severe than many other exams but still significant β candidates should balance speed and accuracy. The subject section carries 80 marks and pedagogy carries 20 marks within the subject section.
DSSSB TGT salary falls under Pay Level 7 (βΉ44,900-βΉ1,42,400 basic) β the same as SSC CGL Inspector posts. With DA + HRA + transport allowance, a Delhi TGT teacher earns approximately βΉ65,000-βΉ75,000 in hand per month, along with job security and government benefits.
DSSSB releases recruitment notifications irregularly β vacancies appear when Delhi government and MCD request new teachers. Candidates should register on dsssb.delhi.gov.in and keep track of notifications. A large recruitment cycle can bring 3,000-8,000 TGT vacancies across subjects.
How it works
DSSSB PRT/TGT selection process
Written CBT (One-tier)
General Section: General Awareness (20q), Reasoning Ability (20q), Arithmetic & Numerical Ability (20q), Hindi Language (10q), English Language (10q), Computer Awareness (20q). Subject Section: 80 questions from the teaching subject + 20 questions on teaching methodology/pedagogy. Total 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours.
Document verification
Candidates shortlisted on merit are called for DV. Required documents: degree certificates, B.Ed mark sheet, CTET certificate, category certificate, identity proof. Any mismatch in documents leads to disqualification.
Final merit & joining
Final selection is based entirely on written exam marks. No interview. Candidates are allotted to specific schools in Delhi based on merit and subject requirement.

Strategy
How to prepare for DSSSB PRT/TGT
01The subject section is the biggest merit differentiator
The subject section (80 marks + 20 pedagogy = 100 marks) determines your rank more than any other section. Study your teaching subject at graduation level thoroughly. For Maths TGT, go through NCERT Classes 9-12 and solve 300+ subject questions from DSSSB previous papers.
02Computer Awareness (20 marks) is easy and often ignored
The General Section includes 20 Computer Awareness questions covering MS Office, Internet, Networking basics and Computer fundamentals. Most candidates skip this and leave 20 free marks on the table. Prepare it in 2-3 days with any standard computer awareness module.
03GK must include Delhi-specific content
DSSSB GK uniquely tests Delhi-specific questions: Delhi government schemes, CM/LG/CM history, Delhi geography, famous markets and landmarks. Add a "Delhi GK" section to your notes β this gives you an edge over candidates who only prepare standard national GK.
04Solve 5 previous DSSSB papers for your subject
DSSSB has a consistent pattern. Previous papers for your subject (TGT Maths, TGT English, TGT Science etc.) are available on major preparation platforms. Solving them reveals exactly which topics appear and at what difficulty level.
05Manage time β 3 hours for 200 questions is 54 sec/question
The 3-hour duration for 200 questions gives 54 seconds per question. Practice completing the General Section in 60-65 minutes, leaving 115-120 minutes for the subject section where questions are harder.
FAQs
DSSSB PRT/TGT: frequently asked questions
Is CTET mandatory for DSSSB TGT?

No. Selection is based entirely on the written CBT exam. There is no interview, teaching demo or group discussion. Your written exam score determines your final merit position.
What is the DSSSB TGT salary in hand?
TGT is in Pay Level 7 (βΉ44,900-βΉ1,42,400 basic). In Delhi, with DA + HRA (24-27% for Delhi) + transport allowance, the in-hand salary comes to approximately βΉ65,000-βΉ75,000 per month for a new joining.
