What is SNAP?
SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) is conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU) for admission to MBA programmes at all Symbiosis institutes under SIU. Top institutes accepting SNAP include SIBM Pune (Symbiosis Institute of Business Management), SCMHRD Pune (Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development), SIIB Pune (Symbiosis Institute of International Business) and SIBM Bengaluru.
SNAP is one of India's fastest MBA entrance tests: only 60 minutes for 60 questions, making it a high-speed exam. A unique feature of SNAP is that candidates can attempt it up to 3 times in a single cycle (typically three attempts in December), and the best score counts. This significantly reduces exam-day pressure.
The exam tests three areas: General English β Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability (15q/15m), Analytical & Logical Reasoning (25q/25m), and Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (20q/20m). Total: 60 questions, 60 marks. MCQ with +1 per correct and -0.25 per wrong. Some Special Questions with higher marks and no negative marking have been introduced in recent patterns.
SIBM Pune and SCMHRD are considered premier Symbiosis institutes with strong placements. SIBM Pune average campus placement packages are approximately βΉ13-20 lakh per annum; SCMHRD focuses on HR and Marketing with similar placement profiles. Symbiosis institutes offer a research-oriented, diverse campus environment in Pune.
After SNAP shortlisting, each Symbiosis institute independently calls candidates for GE-PIWAT (Group Exercise, Personal Interaction and Written Ability Test). Admission to each institute uses a composite of SNAP score, GE-PIWAT, academic record and work experience.
How it works
SNAP selection process
SNAP exam (up to 3 attempts)
Online CBT at designated test centres. 60 minutes, 60 questions. Sections: General English (15q/15m), Analytical & Logical Reasoning (25q/25m), Quantitative DI & DS (20q/20m). Marking: +1 MCQ correct, -0.25 MCQ wrong, Special Questions (varies by year). Best score of up to 3 attempts is considered.
Shortlisting by Symbiosis institutes
Each Symbiosis institute independently sets its SNAP cut-off (typically 95%+ for SIBM Pune). They also apply minimum section cut-offs. Shortlists are released in January-February.
GE-PIWAT
Group Exercise (GE): A structured group activity β team exercise or case discussion, 15-20 minutes. Personal Interaction (PI): Individual interview β 15-25 minutes covering profile, current affairs and goals. Written Ability Test (WAT): 20-minute written topic analysis. Held at Symbiosis campus in Pune (and some cities for outstation candidates).
Final selection
Composite score = SNAP score + GE-PIWAT + academic score + work experience. Each institute publishes its weightage formula. Results and joining in June-July.
Exam pattern
SNAP exam pattern

Strategy
How to prepare for SNAP
013 attempts = 3 chances to peak perform
SNAP's multiple attempt feature is its biggest advantage. Treat the first attempt as a high-stakes mock, analyse your performance, refocus weak areas, and improve in the second or third attempt. Most top scorers find their SNAP percentile improves from the first to the third attempt. Register for all 3 attempts from the start.
02Logical Reasoning (25 marks) is the key section
With 25 of 60 marks, Analytical & Logical Reasoning is the highest-weight section. SNAP Reasoning covers syllogisms, blood relations, direction sense, coding and schedule-based arrangements. Practice 25-question Reasoning sets under 25-minute time pressure daily for 30 days before SNAP.
03SNAP is a speed test β 60 seconds per question average
At 60 questions in 60 minutes, you have exactly 60 seconds per question on average. There is no time to read slowly or recalculate multiple times. Practice with 60-minute timed mock tests. If a question takes more than 90 seconds, move on and return if time permits.
04Apply to multiple Symbiosis institutes in one SNAP registration
When registering for SNAP, you apply to specific Symbiosis institutes. Applying to SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, SIIB and SIBM Bengaluru in the same SNAP registration increases your options without proportionate increase in effort. The GE-PIWAT processes are separate for each institute.
05GE-PIWAT is where SNAP is won or lost for top institutes
For SIBM Pune and SCMHRD, the GE-PIWAT carries 30-40% of the final selection weight. A strong SNAP score (95%+) gets you the shortlist; your performance in the group exercise, personal interaction and written ability test determines your final result. Prepare group discussion techniques, practice writing structured 200-word essays on business topics, and prepare a polished interview profile.
FAQs
SNAP: frequently asked questions
How many times can I take SNAP?
