Delhi Police Constable guide
What is Delhi Police Constable?
Delhi Police Constable (Executive) recruitment is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for Group C constable posts in the Delhi Police Force. It is open to 12th-pass candidates aged 18-25, making it one of the most accessible central police recruitment exams in India.
Delhi Police is one of India's largest metropolitan police forces, with over 80,000 personnel and jurisdiction over the entire Delhi NCT. A Constable in Delhi Police performs patrolling, crowd control, VIP protection, traffic management and criminal investigation assistance under SI and ASI supervision.
The selection has three stages: Computer-Based Examination (100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes), Physical Endurance & Measurement Test (PE&MT) and Medical Examination + Document Verification. A driving licence is required for male constable candidates. Final merit is based on the written exam β the PE&MT is qualifying.
The written exam tests four areas: General Knowledge/Current Affairs (50q), Reasoning (25q), Numerical Ability (15q) and Computer Knowledge (10q). Negative marking is 0.25 per wrong answer. The exam is conducted in both Hindi and English.
A Delhi Police Constable draws Pay Level 3 (βΉ21,700-βΉ69,100 basic) plus Delhi Police-specific allowances. With DA + HRA (Delhi) + transport and other allowances, in-hand salary is approximately βΉ35,000-βΉ45,000 per month. Free/subsidised accommodation is available at police housing colonies.

Strategy
How to prepare for Delhi Police Constable
01GK current affairs is 50 questions β the biggest section
With 50 of 100 questions on GK/Current Affairs, this section single-handedly determines your rank. Prepare: last 6 months of national current affairs, Delhi-specific news (government policies, new metro lines, major events), India's sports achievements, awards and government schemes. Use a monthly current affairs capsule and make a 10-page GK revision sheet.
02Physical fitness from the day you apply
The PE&MT timed run (1,600 m in 6:30 for men, 8 min for women) eliminates thousands of candidates. Do not wait until your PE&MT date to start running. Begin a structured running programme on Day 1 of your preparation. The long jump (3.65 m for men) also needs specific practise β running alone is not enough.
03Driving licence for male candidates β apply early
A valid LMV (motorcycle + car) driving licence is mandatory for male Delhi Police Constable candidates at the time of PE&MT. Getting a driving licence from enrolment at a driving school to final laminated card takes 1-3 months. Apply immediately if you do not have one.
04Computer Knowledge (10 marks) with 2 days of prep
10 questions from basic computer awareness β MS Office, Internet, networking, input/output devices β are easy marks. 2-3 days of revision from a standard computer awareness module can fetch you 8-10 marks in this section. Do not leave these marks on the table.
05Negative marking: attempt 90-95, not all 100
With 0.25 negative marking, randomly guessing all uncertain questions costs marks. Use the following rule: if you can eliminate 2 of 4 options confidently, attempt it. If completely unsure (all 4 options possible), skip it. Attempting 90-95 questions with 85%+ accuracy beats attempting all 100 with 75% accuracy.
