What is SSC GD Constable?
SSC GD (General Duty) Constable recruits Constables for India's central armed police forces β BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB β as well as SSF, Rifleman in Assam Rifles, Sepoy in NCB, and Constable in Secretariat Security Force.
It is one of the largest central government recruitment drives by number of vacancies, typically 50,000β80,000 posts per notification. The minimum qualification is 10th pass, making it very accessible to rural and semi-urban aspirants.
The process combines a short CBT with physical standards and efficiency tests, followed by a detailed medical. Fitness preparation is just as important as written test preparation because thousands of candidates who clear the CBT are rejected at PET/PST.

Computer-Based Exam (CBT)
80 questions on Reasoning, GK, Elementary Maths and English/Hindi in 60 minutes. 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer. Shortlists for PET/PST.

Physical Standard Test (PST)
Height and weight measurements. Men: 170 cm general, 162.5 cm for hill-region states; Women: 157 cm general, 150 cm hill-region.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Men: 5 km run in 24 minutes. Women: 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes. Standards relax in specified region/category groups.

Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
Eyesight, hearing, colour vision, general fitness as per the prescribed medical standards for each force.
